So its been ages since I've posted, not at least for a lack of putting in words what has been so far a very disappointing season indeed. On the Super League front, Bordeaux have been made to look anything but a cricket team starting from the very first match. Bowling 50 wides and dropping about 6 catches. And although that match went down to the wire ( losing it in the last over ), anyone who says we deserved to win it needs an urgent examination at the head doctor.
Since then its been the 300 show, as every team we played since got 300 plus against us. Playing against teams like USCA and Dreux, the latter boasting 5 players in the national team, made us look nothing short of pathetic. USCA bowling us out for 120 and Dreux about the same total. Gymkhana was another one where we showcased our uncanny ability of wide bowling, drop catches and over throws leading into battles of blame on the field. Only this time, we got bowled out for 90.
Playing in Paris though, one cant help but feel spoiled playing in the South West where our cricket fields are nothing short of heavenly compared to places like Chantilly and that field of dreams " Parc de Vincennes" where the ball quite frequently got lost in the 30cm long grass on the actual playing field. Mind you, when the home team pitches up a half an hour late and the umpires shrugging their shoulders saying " Ce n'est pas grave ça.", maybe one should lower expectations, especially seeing as we are whether we like it or not, the whipping boys.
But having said all that though, I feel most sorry for the players around Paris, who are all exceptional players and who deserve better playing conditions. I say thank you to the teams for their hospitality and call on all of Bordeaux cricketers to show the same for them when they play us at home.
It is not all doom and gloom though. There is a rose amongst the thorns. Clinton is averaging 100 runs in the Super League so far, and that I might add, against some really fine bowling.
